Getting started
How do I get started?
Get the app from the App Store, open it, tap "new list" and give it a name. Then type items or add a photo. For private lists you need no account.
Do I need an account?
Only for sharing. Private lists work completely without sign-in and stay on the device. You only need a login (email link, no password) once you share a list. More on that: Shopping list without sign-up.
How does the passwordless login work?
You enter your email address and get a login link that is valid for 15 minutes. Tapped on the iPhone, it opens the app and signs you in – there is no password.
Sharing lists
What is the difference between a private and a shared list?
A private list sits only on your device and is not synced. A shared list lives in the cloud so everyone with access sees and edits the same list – it also shows up on any device where you sign in with your email.
How do I share a list?
Open the list, in the menu (🛠) tap "Share list", sign in once with your email. Then you add the email addresses of the people you're sharing with; the app can send them an invitation email. They sign in with the same address and are then on the list. Step by step: Share a shopping list.
What does sharing cost?
The first shared list is free. Every further shared list is a one-time purchase of EUR 0.99 – no subscription.
How do I invite more people to a shared list?
In the shared list you can add more editors by their email address and send them an invitation. Anyone can also remove themselves from a list again.
Items, photos, tidying up
How do I put a photo on the list?
When adding an item, tap "photo" and either take a picture there and then or pick one from your library. The photo becomes its own item. More on that: List with photos.
Can I copy an item to another list?
Yes. On the item, tap the copy icon and choose the target list. A new, unchecked item is created there; the original stays unchanged.
How do I tidy up a list?
Ticked items slide down. "Delete all done" clears the list in one step; "restore all done" resets the checkmarks – handy for a reused packing list.
Does the app work offline?
Yes. Changes to shared lists are saved locally and synced automatically as soon as there is a connection again.
Old account, platform, privacy
I used the app before – where are my old shared lists?
The cloud was rebuilt. Sign in with the same email address you were on the lists with back then and they show up again. If a list is missing, your address probably wasn't listed as an editor on it.
Is there an Android version?
No. MerkIchMir is for iPhone, iPad and Mac only.
What data is stored?
Private lists stay on the device. With an account, email and list texts sit on a server in Germany, photos on shared lists additionally with a cloud provider in the USA. There is no analytics, tracking or advertising SDK. Details are in the privacy policy.
